第19回WSET Diploma勉強会 – 番外編 –

Our monthly study sessions are especially aimed at current WSET Diploma candidates and focus each on a different topic, brought to you by a WSET Diploma graduate. They are suited both to students preparing for a specific exam and to candidates just starting their way in the Diploma Programme.

There are four flights of three items each for the D3 tasting exam. The four are grape variety, country, region, and mixed bag. This session will be focused on how to structure conclusions for each flight, Writing conclusions and justifying your answer.

We will provide exactly the same wines as in the past D3 Tasting Examination. We will taste each flight and practice how to structure conclusions for each flight and some template English phrases.

It appears that the tasting portion of the exam is where most students have the least struggle in obtaining a passing grade (vs D3 theory), yet it is also one of the most difficult sections in obtaining higher marks (ex distinction). This is in part due to students writing weak conclusions due to a lack of supporting evidence, practice, experience and/or having inconsistencies in their answers.

Flight 1 and 2 :Question 1 (same grape variety), Question 2 (common country)

  • Session2:27th September 2023 (WED) 19:00-21:00

Flight 3 and 4 :Question 3 (Same region), Question 4 (Mixed bag)

This is not intended to be an exhaustive instruction on the tasting exam but will be a self-study session with some useful guidance. I will not go over the entire SAT but provide some template answers for your conclusions (which will be useful in a restricted exam setting), in framing a distinction type of answer. This framework may also be helpful for other similar style of wines so that you are not memorizing every conclusion for every region and varieties (ex Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Chenin Blanc etc).

Past D3 Tasting exam wines : Blind tasting for 12 wines (6 wines each Session)

This seminar will be conducted in English.

Recording or taking pictures with smartphones or other devices during class is prohibited.
